Tolu Arokodare crowned Best African Player in Belgium after stunning season
Tolu Arokodare’s breakout year has ended with the ultimate reward, the Nigerian forward has been crowned the best African player in the Belgian Pro League after a standout season for Genk.
The 24-year-old striker scored 20 league goals in the 2024–25 campaign and 22 overall in 43 appearances, also providing five assists. His impact up front was a driving force behind Genk’s title push, which lasted until a dip in the play-offs saw them slip to third.
Arokodare’s consistent form saw him beat teammate Zakaria El Ouahdi, Union Saint-Gilloise duo Noah Sadiki and Promise David, and Club Brugge’s Raphael Onyedika to claim the prestigious Ebony Shoe award.
Since arriving at Genk in January 2023, Arokodare has grown into a key figure. He made an instant impression, scoring on his debut in a thrilling 3–2 win over Gent.
Genk will face Gent again on May 18, and Arokodare is expected to lead the line as they aim to finish the season strong.
