David Henen, a key figure in the Togo national football team, has underscored the importance of friendly matches as the squad gears up for upcoming fixtures. Speaking after participating in the team’s first training session on Monday, the 27-year-old forward expressed optimism about the team’s preparations and highlighted the significance of the upcoming matches.
The Togolese national team, known as the Hawks, aims to regain its competitive edge and solidify its presence in continental tournaments, particularly the African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
As part of their strategy to achieve this goal, Henen emphasized the need for rigorous preparation, including the careful consideration of friendly matches.
“We are on a positive trajectory, and it’s crucial for us to demonstrate our readiness for upcoming challenges,” stated Henen, reflecting on the team’s current momentum. “The two forthcoming matches hold significant importance as they provide us with an opportunity to showcase our capabilities and determination.”
According to Henen, every aspect of the team’s preparation, including friendly matches, must be approached with utmost seriousness and commitment.
“Commencing training early allows us to approach the matches against Niger and Libya with the required focus and intensity,” he remarked.
“Regardless of the venue, whether in Morocco, Ethiopia, or Senegal, our primary objective is to participate fully and deliver our best performance.”
The training regimen for the Togolese national team will continue in the coming days as they prepare for their upcoming fixtures.
Their first match against Niger is scheduled for March 22, 2024, marking a crucial juncture in their journey towards reclaiming their position among Africa’s football elite.
