The national selection delegation of Togo en route to the 2010 CAN in Angola was attacked by rebels in the Enclave of Cabinda, a separatist region of the country. This resulted in two deaths, assistant coach Amélété Abalo and press officer Stan Ocloo. Several others were injured, including goalkeeper Kodjovi Obilalé, who still bears the after-effects of the attack. After the incident, the Togolese government ordered the repatriation of the entire team to Lomé, and Togo did not participate in the tournament. The Togolese team was later sanctioned by CAF for political interference, but this sanction was lifted by FIFA. Investigations to determine those responsible for the attack have remained at a standstill, with only an international arrest warrant issued against Rodrigues Mingas, Secretary-General of FLEC (Front for the Liberation of the Enclave of Cabinda), who claimed responsibility for the attack.
