Romao and Womé Honoured at Togo Football Awards

Alaixys Romao and Dove Womé were the standout winners at the 10th edition of the Togo Football Awards, held this weekend in Lomé.

Romao, who plays for Olympique de Marseille, was named Best Togolese Player Based in Europe, reclaiming an honour he first won in 2012. The veteran midfielder succeeds Reims goalkeeper Kossi Agassa, last year’s winner, and edged out strong competition, including Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor.

Meanwhile, Dove Womé, currently plying his trade in South Africa, was awarded Best Togolese Player in African Championships for the second consecutive year. The 23-year-old midfielder finished ahead of fellow nominees Sadate Ouro-Akoriko and Backer Aloenouvo, underlining his consistency and growing influence on the continent.

The gala also celebrated achievements across Togo’s domestic football leagues. Moukaila Djarikaka of ASKO and Koffi Dosseh of Dyto shared the Top Scorer award in Division 1, each having netted 8 goals. Sixteen-year-old Ouro-Nilé Faozame of Sémassi was named Best Young Player in the top flight, signalling his bright future in Togolese football.

League champions were also recognised:

  • Sémassi of Sokodé – Division 1 champions

  • Kotoko of Lavié – Division 2 champions

  • Hirondelles of Kouvé – Division 3 champions

One of the evening’s most emotional moments came with the presentation of the Football Career Merit Award to former international goalkeeper Tommy Sylvestre. A legend of Togolese football, Sylvestre now serves as a member of the Togolese Football Federation’s (FTF) Normalization Committee.

The Togo Football Awards continue to serve as a key platform for celebrating the achievements of Togolese players both at home and abroad, while also encouraging the next generation of football talent.
