Togo Ligue 1: Anges FC Take Top Spot as Second Matchday Sees Mixed Fortunes for Clubs
As preparations intensify for Sunday’s U-20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Togo and Morocco, the second round of the Togo national first division championship was brought forward to Saturday. The rearranged schedule allowed fans to focus on the key international fixture while still enjoying domestic action, which produced a flurry of goals, upsets, and one weather-affected match.
Anges FC Rise to the Top
Defending champions Anges FC of Notsè continued their perfect start to the 2024–2025 campaign, securing a narrow but vital 1–0 victory over AS Togo Port at the Stade de Kégué. A decisive goal from forward Zico Séklé sealed a second consecutive win for President Eric Gagou’s side, propelling them to the top of the table.
Anges benefited from the slip-up of early leaders Agaza, who were stunned away from home by Foadan. After an emphatic 5–1 opening day victory over Gomido, the Lomé-based Black Scorpions fell 1–0 in Dapaong. The defeat not only ended their momentum but also cost them the league lead.
Gomido Bounce Back
Meanwhile, Gomido de Kpalimé responded in style to their heavy loss in the previous round, dominating Unisport 4–1 in front of their home fans. The victory restored some confidence in the squad and demonstrated their attacking prowess, which had gone missing in the season opener.
Struggles for Dyto and ASKO Dominate
Elsewhere, Dyto continued their poor start to the season, suffering a second straight defeat — this time a 2–0 loss to ASKO. The defeat leaves Dyto without a point and raises early concerns about their form and consistency.
In Sokodé, the fixture between Maranatha and Gbikinti was marred by weather disruptions. The match, locked at 1–1, was suspended five minutes before full-time due to heavy rainfall. The Togolese Football Federation is expected to decide whether the match will be resumed or the result upheld as final.
Sémassi Edge Douanes
In the final fixture of the weekend, Sémassi claimed a tight 1–0 win over AS Douanes, a result that keeps them in the top half of the standings and marks an encouraging start to their campaign.
Matchday 2 Results:
AS Togo Port 0–1 Anges FC
Maranatha 1–1 Gbikinti (Match interrupted due to rain)
