The 22nd edition of the international cycling tour in Togo is set to begin on the upcoming Sunday, covering a total distance of 1511 km, including transfers. The announcement was made during a press conference in Lomé by the organizers. The president of the Togolese Federation, Anani Assiongbon, highlighted that this edition would be the richest, with innovations and the inclusion of the town of Aneho, which the tour hasn’t passed through in the last 10 years.
The tour will consist of 10 stages, including one with a track, covering a total distance of 968 kilometers. Eight teams, representing Burkina Faso, Benin, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, France, and two Togolese teams, are participating. Notably, Niger will be absent due to non-payment of its commitments.
The organizers expressed gratitude to the Togolese cycling federation for their exceptional efforts and highlighted the importance of sponsors and the media in making the event successful. The overall budget for the tour has not been disclosed, but sponsors are actively supporting the event, aiming to make it a success. The 22nd edition of the Tour du Togo is scheduled to conclude on April 21, 2013, with the final stage in Lomé.
