ALAIXYS ROMAO ON TOGO’S AFCON ELIMINATION: “A DISAPPOINTMENT, BUT A CHANCE TO FOCUS ON CLUB”
After reaching the quarter-finals of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, Togo will not feature in the 2015 edition set to take place in Equatorial Guinea. The Hawks were knocked out after a decisive defeat to Ghana in Tamale on the final day of qualifying.
Speaking ahead of Marseille’s Ligue 1 clash against Nantes, Alaixys Romao, a key figure in both the national team and OM, expressed his regret:
“It’s a disappointment not to be participating in the CAN. We didn’t do what we needed to qualify. But it’s a blessing in disguise, I’m going to give my all to my club,” said the Togolese midfielder.
With the AFCON 2015 scheduled from January 17 to February 8, Romao’s absence from the tournament may ultimately benefit Olympique de Marseille, who will retain one of their most consistent midfielders during a crucial period of the domestic season.
