Police in the Bernoussi district of Casablanca arrested three young men on Sunday night for engaging in sports riots.
They are suspected of being involved in a violent street fight and causing damage to private property in a case related to sports-related riots.
The suspects were caught engaging in violent behaviour and causing injuries during a fight in a residential area.
They were reportedly part of a larger group, and the violence they were involved in damaged four parked cars.
Early investigations suggest the incident was triggered by previous disagreements linked to football fan groups, with the suspects belonging to a supporters’ faction of a football team.
The suspects are currently under investigation, as ordered by the public prosecutor. Authorities are working to uncover all the circumstances behind the incident and to identify and arrest other people involved.
Football hooliganism has become a serious issue in several Moroccan cities, especially big cities like Casablanca.
Several clashes between rival fan groups often lead to public disturbances, property damage, and even injuries.
Authorities have continuously vowed to address this phenomenon, including awareness campaigns, better policing strategies, and encouraging clubs to take responsibility for the behaviour of their supporters.
