This year we are together with the same team – Cody Gakpo on Liverpool’s title challenge

Liverpool’s forward, Cody Gakpo, has been instrumental in the club’s formidable campaign this season.

Reflecting on their journey, Gakpo emphasized the squad’s intensifying hunger as they approach the season’s climax.

This season, Gakpo has showcased exceptional performance, netting 16 goals and providing 5 assists across all competitions. His contributions have solidified his position as the team’s second-highest scorer, trailing only Mohamed Salah. Notably, Gakpo averages a goal every 126 minutes, surpassing his previous records at PSV.

“I think the closer you come to the end the more hunger you get to really achieve something as a group. Obviously last season we were in a good position as well and then unfortunately it didn’t work out how we wanted to,” Gakpo shared.

“But this year we are together with the same team so we know what we can do better and we will do better. That’s what you can see and like you said, we are not trying to slow down, we just try to keep going.

The Dutchman also lauded the squad’s dedication to supporting each other, particularly within Arne Slot’s tactical framework.

“Yeah, that’s true. I think the slight changes also makes the work maybe a little bit easier. We will – it’s cliche – but we will die for each other on the pitch and that’s what you saw as well in the City game when Ibou Konate makes some tackles with everything he has.

“Everybody did and that’s what we are doing at the moment and that is what we have to do for the last 11 games.

Under the strategic guidance of manager Arne Slot, Gakpo has thrived in his natural left-wing position, capitalizing on one-on-one situations. This tactical shift has not only enhanced his individual performance but also bolstered the team’s overall dynamics.
