There will be peace, happiness in D.R Congo if we qualify for 2026 FIFA World Cup – Ex-captain Gabriel Zakuani
Former D.R Congo captain Gabriel Zakuani has admonished the current players in the national team to do everything to book qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to him, qualification will bring peace and massive joy to the people of D.R. Congo.
“If we get to the World Cup, it will be huge for the country,” he said in an interview with BBC Sport Africa.
Zakuani added, “The achievements of the players will then transpire into politics, the life of kids will be happier, the streets of Congo will be celebrating up until the day until the World Cup kicks off.
“No one has seen this happen for such a long time. This will bring peace, happiness, joy and something to look forward to. It will be so big for DR Congo.”
After beating Cameroon and Nigeria in the African playoffs for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, D.R. Congo are one match away from securing their place at next year’s global tournament.
They need a single win in the inter-confederation playoff next March to seal their spot at the World Cup.
With the team feeling very confident after wins against Cameroon and Nigeria in their last outing, many have backed them to easily make it to the World Cup.
Gabriel Zakuani believes in the team but has charged the Leopards to remain focused and eschew any form of complacency ahead of the inter-confederation playoff.
