Ahmed Gendouzi, the Algerian midfielder currently on loan to Ceramica Cleopatra, has unveiled the behind-the-scenes story of his departure from Al Ahly during the last summer transfer window.
In an exclusive interview on the “On Time Sports” program, broadcast on “On Time Sports” channel, Gendouzi shared the emotional turmoil he experienced upon learning about his loan move from the Red Castle.
“I was saddened and tense when the Al Ahly coaching staff informed me of my loan before the season ended,” Gendouzi revealed.
He initially resisted the idea of leaving Al Ahly and sought to understand the reasons behind the loan.
He expressed his desire to continue contributing to the team, given his positive performances when given the opportunity.
Gendouzi recounted a meeting with senior players at Al Ahly, including Mohamed El-Shennawy and Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet.
El-Shennawy, the veteran goalkeeper, delivered a compelling message, stating, “The club is above us all, and you can’t say no or object.”
Expressing his initial reluctance, Gendouzi shared, “Sayed Abdelhafiz (Al Ahly’s former football director) insisted on my temporary departure to allow the club to sign a foreign striker.
I requested time to contemplate, especially since the season was ongoing, and we hadn’t played the Egyptian Cup match against El Masry.”
He revealed having a discussion with the coach, Pitso Mosimane, who urged him to stay and continue in the Egyptian Premier League, assuring Gendouzi of his follow-up.
“I had to leave on loan to get playing time,” Gendouzi admitted, acknowledging the necessity of a loan move to maintain his match fitness.
He disclosed that Mosimane held two sessions to persuade him to accept the loan deal.
Opting for Ceramica Cleopatra, Gendouzi explained, “The club officials showed a strong determination to sign me.
I feel comfortable within the team, with no disputes or conflicts.”
