Cape Town City has officially announced the departure of Thato Tsiliso Mokeke, catching fans by surprise. The seasoned 33-year-old South African international bids adieu to the Citizens after a loan stint at Richards Bay during the current season.
The announcement was made through an official statement on Cape Town City’s platform, marking the end of the journey with the defensive midfielder.
Mokeke’s departure comes on the heels of a challenging loan period at Richards Bay, where he featured in only six matches, netting a solitary goal.
The official statement from Cape Town City on X read, “Cape Town City has agreed to part ways with Thato Mokeke by mutual agreement.
We thank Thato for his incredible contribution over the years. And we wish him the best in his future projects.”
In the current season, Mokeke showcased his skills in 15 matches, participating in nine games with City and an additional six at Richards Bay, where he notched a goal during his tenure in the province of KwaZulu-Natal.
With the announcement of his departure, Mokeke is now free to explore potential engagements with clubs of his choice in the ensuing days or months.
Thato Mokeke, who initiated his professional career with Spurs in the 2010/2011 season before transitioning to rivals City, leaves a lasting legacy with Cape Town City.
During his commendable six-year tenure, Mokeke featured in 169 games for the Citizens, contributing with one goal and three assists.
