Teen sensation Max Dowman earns rave review from Eberechi Eze in Arsenal’s FA Cup win

Eberechi Eze has hailed teenage teammate Max Dowman as a “special, special player” after the youngster’s impressive display during Arsenal’s victory over Mansfield Town in the FA Cup.

The England international of Nigerian descent played a decisive role as Arsenal secured progression in the competition on Saturday, delivering the winning contribution in a tie that also offered a glimpse of the club’s next generation.

Sixteen year old prospects Dowman and Marli Salmon were handed starting roles, highlighting the growing confidence within the club’s academy pipeline.

Dowman in particular drew attention with a fearless performance, showing composure on the ball and repeatedly driving at defenders despite the demanding cup environment. His ability to handle the occasion prompted strong praise from Eze, who believes the youngster possesses rare qualities.

“He is a special, special player.

“To be able to play in these types of conditions and do so well on the ball, and dribble the way he was, showed he is a special talent.

“We are all trying to support and help him as much as possible to grow, improve and fulfil his potential.”

The Arsenal midfielder suggested the teenager’s self belief is one of the most striking aspects of his development, noting that the club’s current group of academy graduates carries a growing sense of confidence when stepping into the senior environment.

“Max is very different to a lot of players, but he is someone that is confident.

“He believes in his ability a lot. To be fair, that is the same with a lot of the players coming through the academy these days.

“Once they come to train with the first team, they believe in themselves. It is a positive energy to be around.”

Eze also stressed that Dowman’s character off the pitch matches his promise on it, suggesting the teenager’s personality has made him a popular figure among senior teammates.

“He is a special player, but also a special person as well. You can see that he is maturing well and he’s a good guy. It’s fun to be around.”
