Teen sensation Ayyoub Bouaddi torn between representing Morocco and France

GY6hoTJXAAACwf3

Lille’s rising star, Ayyoub Bouaddi finds himself at the centre of a heated tug-of-war between the Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) and the French Football Federation (FFF) over his international allegiance.

The 17-year-old  talented midfielder who has made 13 appearances for Lille across all competitions this season, recently earned his first two caps for France’s Under-21 team.

While this milestone highlights his progression within the French football system, Bouaddi has not ruled out representing Morocco, the nation of his heritage.

Morocco Makes Its Move

According to Moroccan outlet Hespress, the FRMF is actively pursuing Bouaddi, having already secured him a Moroccan national identity card. Their next step is to obtain a Moroccan passport for the young player, further solidifying their case to bring him into their fold.

France’s Counterplay

The FFF is equally determined to keep Bouaddi in their ranks. Reports suggest that France’s national technical directorate (DTN) is applying significant pressure, both on Bouaddi and his club, Lille, to ensure he remains committed to Les Bleus. This effort underscores how highly the FFF values the midfielder’s potential.

A Career-Defining Decision

Caught between the two nations, Bouaddi faces a pivotal decision that could shape his footballing future. While he is currently focused on his development at Lille, where he is emerging as one of Ligue 1’s brightest young prospects, the question of national allegiance looms large.

For now, Bouaddi appears likely to continue representing France at youth levels until a senior-level decision is required.

Morocco’s Growing Appeal

Despite France’s active pursuit, Morocco offers a compelling case. With the nation’s rising profile on the international stage, including their historic run at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, they have become an increasingly attractive destination for dual-nationality players seeking to contribute to a dynamic and ambitious team.

As Bouaddi’s star continues to rise, the football world will be watching closely to see which nation the young talent ultimately chooses to represent.
