Tanzania bolsters coaching staff with former Algeria coach for afcon 2023 campaign

In a bid to elevate their performance at the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (afcon), Tanzania has welcomed the expertise of former Algerian national team coach, Rabah Saadane, as the principal advisor to the technical staff. This move underlines the growing influence of Algerian football expertise in Tanzanian football.

Saadane, a seasoned septuagenarian coach, brings a wealth of experience, having led the Algerian team on four separate occasions (1984-86, February-March 1999, 2003-04, 2007-10).

His impressive coaching career extends across seven African clubs, including notable stints at Raja Casablanca (1988-90) and ES Sahel (1994-95).

In addition to his coaching roles, Saadane served as the sports director at CS Constantine, bringing a diverse and comprehensive perspective to the Tanzanian coaching setup.

The move follows Tanzania’s appointment of coach Adel Amrouche and an all-Algerian coaching staff, further emphasizing the affinity for Algerian football expertise within the Tanzanian football community.

Saadane’s advisory role comes as Tanzania gears up for its third appearance in the afcon tournament, having previously participated in 1980 and 2019.

The Taifa Stars, drawn into a competitive Group F alongside DR Congo, Morocco, and Zambia, set their sights on securing a historic qualification to the knockout stages.

With afcon 2023 scheduled to take place from January 13 to February 11, the Tanzanian team aims to leverage Saadane’s vast experience to navigate the challenges posed by their group-stage opponents and achieve a commendable performance in the prestigious continental tournament.

The inclusion of seasoned coaching figures is seen as a strategic move to enhance the competitive edge of the Taifa Stars in the upcoming campaign.
