Zimbabwe’s national football team has confirmed that Takesure Chiragwi will serve as the assistant coach under the new head coach Michael Nees. The German coach Nees, who has recently been appointed to lead the Zimbabwe Warriors, will be supported by Chiragwi, a familiar figure in Zimbabwean football.
The appointment of Takesure Chiragwi as assistant coach follows his long-standing role with the Zimbabwean under-23 team.
Chiragwi, who is currently with Ngezi Platinum, will step into his new role while the full composition of the technical staff is still being finalized.
Jethro Hunidzarira, Technical Director of the Zimbabwe International Football Association (ZIFA), confirmed the news in an interview with New Zimbabwe.
“Our under-23 coach is Takesure Chiragwi, so he will be our second assistant coach,” Hunidzarira stated.
Takesure Chiragwi’s appointment is aligned with ZIFA’s policy, which stipulates that the coach of the under-23 national team is eligible to serve as an assistant coach for the senior team.
This policy reflects ZIFA’s commitment to integrating experienced local talent into the national setup.
Chiragwi has previously supported the senior national team under three different coaches, a testament to his adaptability and experience within various coaching regimes.
At present, Chiragwi continues to hold his position with Ngezi Platinum, where he has been actively preparing the team for the CAF Champions League preliminaries.
Under his guidance, Ngezi Platinum is performing commendably in the league, holding a strong position in third place after 22 matches.
His ongoing involvement with the club highlights his dual commitment to both club and national duties.
The final decision regarding Chiragwi’s role as first assistant coach ultimately rests with Michael Nees.
The new head coach will have the authority to confirm or adjust the assistant coaching roles as he sees fit.
As Chiragwi transitions from his club duties to his new role with the Zimbabwe Warriors, both he and Nees will work together to prepare the team for upcoming challenges.
The appointment of Takesure Chiragwi as assistant coach marks a significant step in the restructuring of Zimbabwe’s national football team under Michael Nees.
With Chiragwi’s extensive experience and local knowledge, the Zimbabwe Warriors are poised to benefit from a blend of international coaching expertise and domestic insight.
As the team gears up for their future fixtures, the collaboration between Nees and Chiragwi is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the success of the Zimbabwe Warriors.
