Taiwo Awoniyi undergoes surgery after playing through pain against Leicester

Taiwo Awoniyi pushed through the pain to finish Nottingham Forest’s dramatic 2-2 draw with Leicester, only to face a far more serious situation hours later.

The Nigerian striker has now undergone urgent abdominal surgery after complications were found by Forest’s medical team.

Awoniyi took a knock late in the match at the City Ground and appeared to struggle physically. Still, he returned to the pitch to help his team press for a late winner, showing remarkable commitment.

While it first seemed like a routine issue, Sky Sports has revealed that the injury was worse than feared. Forest staff acted swiftly, sending him to the hospital on Monday night for immediate surgery.

The club has yet to provide an official timeline for his recovery, but Awoniyi’s absence could be a blow as Forest prepare for a tough end to their Premier League season.

Next up, Forest visit West Ham on Sunday before closing their campaign at home against Chelsea.

Awoniyi has been a key figure for the club this season, and fans will hope for a full and quick recovery.
