Nottingham Forest forward Taiwo Awoniyi is fighting to recover after undergoing emergency surgery for a severe abdominal injury sustained in Forest’s 2-2 draw against Leicester City.
The Nigerian striker crashed into the post while chasing a goal and, though he signaled to head coach Nuno Espirito Santo that he could continue, he was substituted shortly after.
Doctors later revealed the injury was life-threatening and required immediate surgery. The club has since confirmed that Taiwo Awoniyi is in an induced coma but is responding well to treatment.
Nottingham Forest fans, teammates, and players across the league have expressed their support, with social media flooded with messages of hope for the 27-year-old forward.
Nottingham Forest issued a statement saying the striker is “recovering well so far” following the complex procedure.
Awoniyi, a key figure for both club and country, has battled injuries in the past, but this setback has shaken the football community.
