Inter Milan defender Manuel Akanji says he has the potential to be the best defender in Serie A this season. The Swiss international highlighted his confidence after another solid performance for the Nerazzurri.
Akanji, who is also of Nigerian heritage, has impressed critics and teammates alike, quickly earning recognition as one of Serie A’s top performers this campaign.
The Man City loanee’s performances in defense have helped Inter maintain solidity against both top and lower-ranked teams.
After Inter’s victory over Parma, Akanji told Inter TV: “When you play a match like this, it’s down to the whole team, not just individuals. Parma only had one chance to score.”
Asked about being rated as the league’s best defender, Akanji said: “I could be, I don’t know. I play for one of the best teams, I’ll do my best.” His humility contrasts with his commanding presence on the field.
The 29-year-old also shared his approach to staying in peak condition, explaining: “The secret to good physical condition is to eat healthy, train well, and stay healthy.”
Inter Milan supporters and Serie A observers have taken note of Akanji’s blend of tactical awareness, speed, and strength. Many now view him as a cornerstone of Inter’s defense for the remainder of the season.
