Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has declined to guarantee that Alexander Isak will remain at the club this summer, amid growing speculation over the striker’s future.
Isak, who has Eritrean roots, has become a key figure for Newcastle since joining from Real Sociedad, scoring vital goals as the Magpies chase European qualification.
However, the 25-year-old is reportedly on the radar of Arsenal, sparking questions about his long-term commitment to the club.
Speaking after Newcastle’s recent defeat to Arsenal, Howe was cautious when asked if Isak would still be a Newcastle player next season.
“I never make those guarantees about any player,” Howe said. “It’s not to do with Alex’s future, I’d be foolish to sit here and do anything like that.”
Howe emphasized the importance of retaining top talent while also reinforcing the squad to match the club’s long-term ambitions.
“We want to keep our strongest players,” he continued. “I’ve said that as long as I’ve sat in this seat.
“We have to keep our strongest players and bring in more good players to make us stronger because of the ambition of the club and everybody connected with it is long-term success, and that’s the only way we can try to get that.”
Newcastle are expected to be active in the transfer market this summer, with Howe keen to build a side capable of challenging for major honours as the club’s ambitious owners push for a return to the Premier League’s elite.
