Swedish striker of Eritrean descent, Alexander Isak was on the scoresheet for Newcastle United on Sunday evening, helping the team to beat Liverpool to clinch the English Carabao Cup.
The highly-rated forward started for the Magpies in the final and put up an impressive performance for the team.
Newcastle took the lead in the 45th minute when Dan Burn rose highest to meet a corner kick, directing a powerful header into the left post, leaving the goalkeeper helpless.
Early in the second half, Alexander Isak doubled the advantage with a clinical first-time finish inside the box, demonstrating his composure and sharp instincts in front of goal.
Liverpool thought they had pulled one back deep into stoppage time when Federico Chiesa found the net, but the assistant referee’s flag ruled him offside, sealing Newcastle’s well-deserved victory.
The goal was later given following a VAR review. However, it could only serve as a consolation as Liverpool lost 2-1.
On the matchday, Egyptian superstar Mohamed Salah played for Liverpool. His performance in the final could not inspire the team to victory.
