Swedish-Eritrean striker Alexander Isak pushing for Liverpool switch as Newcastle exit looms
Alexander Isak has made clear his desire to join Liverpool this summer, with the Swedish striker determined to force a move away from Newcastle United.
The Premier League champions are reportedly preparing a formal offer, having already signalled their willingness to break the British transfer record with a bid in excess of £120 million.
Isak, who is of Eritrean heritage, has not hidden his frustration after Newcastle blocked Liverpool’s initial informal approach last week.
The 25-year-old has since trained away from the main squad and was omitted from the club’s pre-season tour, underscoring his determination to engineer a switch to Merseyside.
The striker scored 23 goals in the Premier League last season and has emerged as one of Europe’s top forwards. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the player’s stance, stating, “Once again: Alexander Isak wants Liverpool, it’s his priority as reported. No talks with Al Hilal, Chelsea or Manchester United.”
Despite signing French forward Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt for £79 million, Liverpool are still in the market for further attacking options and remain confident in their financial position under current FFP regulations.
Isak’s representatives reportedly believe he deserves a wage package between £250,000 and £300,000 a week — a figure Liverpool are believed to be ready to meet.
Newcastle, who previously insisted the player was not for sale, have started exploring alternatives, including RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko. That shift could indicate a growing willingness to part ways with Isak as tensions rise.
Isak is said to be motivated by a desire to win silverware and believes Liverpool, with their current project under Arne Slot, offer the perfect platform to elevate his career.
A resolution could now come quickly, with all parties aligned on what appears to be an inevitable transfer.
