Swedish-Eritrean striker Alexander Isak open to Newcastle contract talks in summer

Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak is open to discussing a new contract with the club but will wait until the summer before making a decision.

According to The Athletic, the Swedish international of Eritrean descent is happy at Newcastle and believes he can achieve his goals with the team. However, he has put contract extension talks on hold until the end of the season.

Despite interest from top clubs like Arsenal, Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, and Barcelona, the Swedish forward is not currently thinking about a transfer.

“As for my future, it’s nothing I’m really thinking about,” Isak said. “I’m focusing on work, and now is probably the worst time to think about anything else.”

Newcastle are eager to secure Isak’s long-term future and is preparing a new deal to keep him at the club. However, any potential suitors would need to make an offer well over £100 million to change Newcastle’s stance.

When asked about signing a contract extension in the summer, Isak said, “I’m not thinking about the summer, but yes, we’ll talk about it when the season is over.”
