Swedish-Eritrean striker Alexander Isak blasts teammates after Sweden’s humiliating loss to Kosovo

Swedish striker Alexander Isak has lashed out at his teammates following Sweden’s humiliating 1-0 defeat to Kosovo on Monday — a result that leaves their hopes of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup all but over.

The Liverpool forward, born to Eritrean parents, played the full 90 minutes alongside Arsenal’s Viktor Gyökeres, but neither could prevent Sweden from slumping to the bottom of Group B.

With just one point from four matches, the Swedes now face near-certain elimination after losing to a Kosovo side that had only one previous World Cup qualifying win since joining UEFA in 2016.

A visibly frustrated Isak did not hold back in his post-match comments to Dagens Nyheter, saying the team had badly underperformed.

“I don’t know. We players are so f***** dissatisfied. And as I’ve said before, we take a lot of responsibility ourselves. We look at ourselves in the mirror. And no one is approved. Not us players, not us as a team,”* he said.

“And that of course includes the coach and everything around. But those questions, we don’t get involved in them.”

Sweden’s defeat was another low point in a disastrous campaign under head coach Jon Dahl Tomasson, whose position is now under serious scrutiny.

The Danish tactician admitted his frustration after the match.

“Of course, it’s not good enough and it’s a terrible result. It really hurts. We forgot how to score goals and I don’t know why,” he told reporters.

Once regarded as a rising force in European football, Sweden’s attack — led by Isak and Gyökeres — has faltered badly, with the team failing to score in three consecutive qualifiers.

Both forwards will now return to their clubs under growing pressure to rediscover their form as the national team’s World Cup dream fades into despair.
