Sweden international of Eritrean descent Alexander Isak is close to making a return to the pitch after being sidelined with a serious injury.
Isak, who joined Liverpool on summer transfer deadline day sustained a serious injury in December after colliding with Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven in high-stake clash.
The 26-year-old Swede suffered a fracture to his leg and required surgery on both his ankle and fibula, ruling him out for several months.
Isak is gradually ramping up his recovery after being spotted at Liverpool training grounds participating in individual training sessions, including gym work, light fitness drills, and controlled football exercises. These activities indicate that he is steadily regaining fitness ahead of a potential return to full team training.
Meanwhile, Sweden manager Graham Potter has expressed optimism about Isak’s availability for Sweden’s upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifier against Ukraine on March 26.
Speaking to the press, Potter acknowledged the difficulty of recovering from such an injury, describing it as a “long and demanding process,” but also left the door open for a potential comeback in time for the fixture.
Before the injury, Isak had made 16 appearances for Liverpool this season, contributing three goals. While his absence has been felt on the pitch, his progress in rehabilitation offers hope both for club and country as they prepare for a busy period in March.
