Togo’s Womé Dové Injured After Scoring Against Former Club Mamelodi Sundowns
By BBC Sport – Football
Togolese midfielder Womé Dové was forced off the pitch early in SuperSport United’s Premier Soccer League clash against his former club, Mamelodi Sundowns, despite making a bright start to the match.
The 26-year-old opened the scoring just 15 minutes into the game, marking his eighth goal of the season in what was his 11th start. However, the celebrations were short-lived. Dové suffered a knock shortly after his goal and was replaced by Mkhabela before the half-hour mark, with SuperSport still leading at that point.
Without Dové’s influence in midfield, SuperSport United struggled to maintain control. Mamelodi Sundowns rallied to overturn the deficit and eventually ran out 3-1 winners, handing SuperSport a disappointing defeat on matchday 14 of the South African Premier Soccer League.
The extent of Dové’s injury remains unclear, and the club has yet to provide an official update on his condition or expected recovery time.
Dové, a former player for Maranatha de Fiokpo in Togo, has been one of SuperSport United’s standout performers this season. Just days before the Sundowns match, he played a key role in helping the club lift the Telekom Cup, scoring in a thrilling 3-2 extra-time victory over Platinum Stars.
Fans and club officials will now be anxiously awaiting news on his fitness, as SuperSport look to maintain momentum in both domestic league and cup competitions.
