The Nigeria Super Falcons secured their passage to the fourth round of the CAF Women’s Olympic Qualifier with a hard-fought 1-0 triumph over the Indomitable Lioness of Cameroon. Esther Okoronkwo’s clinical strike in the 14th minute emerged as the decisive moment, propelling the Super Falcons to the next stage, where they await the winner between South Africa and Tanzania.

The nine-time African Women’s Football Champions demonstrated unwavering determination to rectify past shortcomings and qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games after missing out on the previous edition.

The first leg in Douala concluded in a goalless draw, setting the stage for a high-stakes clash on Nigerian soil. From the onset, the host exhibited promise, with Esther Okoronkwo and Rasheedat Ajibade posing early threats in the opening minutes.

The pivotal moment arrived swiftly, with Okoronkwo finding the back of the net, securing the lone goal of the match and cementing Nigeria’s advancement to the next round.

The Super Falcons showcased resilience and strategic prowess to secure the victory that has reignited their Olympic aspirations.

Despite the solitary goal, the match witnessed additional scoring opportunities, with Nigeria coming close to doubling their lead in the 31st minute through Jenifer Echegini.

However, the Cameroonian goalkeeper exhibited exceptional skills to deny Echegini’s close-range attempt.

The Super Falcons’ journey in the Women’s Olympic Qualifier continues to capture the imagination of fans, as they now eagerly anticipate the upcoming challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in their pursuit of Olympic glory.
