Nigeria’s star striker, Victor Osimhen, faced an unexpected setback as the Super Eagles embarked on their journey from Abidjan to Bouake for a crucial Africa Cup of Nations semi-final against South Africa.

Osimhen, the team’s talismanic player, did not board the flight due to reported abdominal discomfort, sidelining him temporarily.

Departing on an Air Cote d’Ivoire flight, the Super Eagles released a statement disclosing Osimhen’s condition, indicating that team medics were closely monitoring him.

A member of the medical staff remained in Abidjan to provide necessary care.

The statement mentioned the possibility of Osimhen rejoining the squad before 5 pm. the following day, pending medical clearance.

With a pivotal semi-final clash against South Africa looming on Wednesday, the absence of Osimhen poses a significant concern for Nigeria.

The team expressed hope that the striker would recover swiftly to contribute to their campaign.

The unfolding scenario adds an element of uncertainty to Nigeria’s preparations for the crucial match, heightening anticipation for Osimhen’s potential return to the squad.

As the football community awaits updates on Osimhen’s health, the Super Eagles face the challenge of adjusting their strategy in his absence ahead of the high-stakes encounter with South Africa.
