Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye to undergo surgery for wrist injury

Maduka Okoye

Serie A club Udinese have announced that goalkeeper Maduka Okoye will have surgery following a serious injury to his right wrist.

The club revealed on Saturday that the 24-year-old sustained a torn scapholunate ligament during a recent match, a critical injury that will sideline him for the foreseeable future.

As a result of the injury, Okoye will miss the upcoming Serie A match against Monza and could be out for an extended period.

Medical professionals have advised immediate surgical intervention to repair the damaged ligament and restore the wrist’s functionality.

While Udinese has not provided a specific timeline for recovery, it is generally expected that rehabilitation for this type of injury could take between eight to twelve weeks.

In more severe cases, recovery might extend to eight months, presenting a significant challenge for both the player and the club.

Okoye has been a crucial player for Udinese this season, featuring in 14 matches and making 42 saves, placing him among the top four goalkeepers in the league. His last performance was in a 2-0 loss to Genoa, where he made three key saves.
