Football agent Jolly Ogu has come forward with allegations that coach Jose Peseiro, appointed to lead Nigeria’s Super Eagles, failed to honor an agreement after Ogu played a pivotal role in securing Peseiro’s coaching position.
Peseiro took the helm in May 2022, replacing interim coach Augustine Eguavoen after Nigeria’s failed bid to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The former Real Madrid assistant manager had been without a coaching role since resigning from Venezuela’s coaching position in August 2021.
Ogu, instrumental in linking Peseiro with the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), highlighted to the Independent Newspapers that despite his efforts, the Portuguese coach had not fulfilled their agreement.
“Coach Peseiro is yet to settle me my share after I helped him secure the job. He is yet to fulfill his agreement. I know what I did for him to get the job. I know the joker I played. Within 48 hrs, the camel’s back is broken,” Ogu stated.
Ogu further disclosed that Peseiro mentioned withholding $20,000 for someone else, causing strained communication and apparent disregard for their agreement.
Expressing discontent, Ogu shed light on Peseiro’s decision-making process, citing the handling of players and their roles, particularly goalkeeper choices, raising concerns about the team’s performance and Peseiro’s adherence to suggestions.
As of press time, Peseiro has not responded to the allegations.
With the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast in January, Peseiro is tasked with leading the Super Eagles to the tournament’s semifinals. However, these allegations have raised questions about the coach’s approach and relationships within the Nigerian football landscape.
