The agent of Barcelona star Lamine Yamal, Jorge Mendes, has backed the player to win the 2025 Ballon d’Or.
The 17-year-old is one of the top five favourites to win the award this year after an exceptional campaign with the La Liga Champions.
Jorge Mendes believes his client has done enough to win the award ahead of the other favourites.
“Lamine will win the Ballon d’Or,” Jorge Mendes told journalists on Thursday when he arrived in Barcelona to finalise contract extension talks for his client.
Lamine Yamal is currently under contract with Barcelona until 2026. In the last few months, the representative of the player and Barcelona officials have been working on a new deal.
As reported earlier today, the player’s camp is pushing for him to become the highest-paid player at the club after his exceptional campaign in the 2024/25 football season.
The talented forward is expected to sign a mega deal once he turns 18.
Already, Sporting Director of Barcelona, Deco, has given the indication that the club does not mind giving Yamal more money.
“The extension with Lamine is going well. He deserves the pay rise. A player at this level has to be happy. For me, it doesn’t matter whether he’s 17 or 26 – football has to be fair. He should get the contract he deserves,” he told RAC1.
Deco added, Deco added: “It’s not about being the highest paid. What matters is that he’s happy. And I think there’s no better club for him than Barça.”
