Nigerian club Sunshine Stars have confirmed the appointment of Abubakar Bala as their new technical advisor for the remainder of the season. He replaces Bobola Akinbola, who had been serving as interim head of the technical team.
The Akure-based side has been without a permanent head coach since November 10, 2024, following the resignation of Kennedy Boboye.
Bala’s arrival marks the club’s third managerial appointment in as many years, as they look to stabilise their technical leadership and improve results in the Nigerian Professional Football League.
Prior to joining Sunshine Stars, Bala was at the helm of Nigeria National League side Doma United.
His experience in Nigerian football extends further, having previously managed Katsina United, Niger Tornadoes, and Kwara United.
Bala’s track record across various clubs highlights his familiarity with domestic football and his ability to work under challenging conditions.
The decision to appoint Bala reflects Sunshine Stars’ intent to bring stability and tactical discipline to the team.
With the season progressing, the club’s leadership will hope Bala can revitalise the squad and deliver improved performances on the pitch.
Bala’s appointment comes at a critical time for Sunshine Stars, as they seek to climb the league table and re-establish themselves as a competitive force in Nigerian football.
The club’s supporters will now look to the experienced coach to make an immediate impact and steady the team in the coming weeks.
The management has expressed confidence in Bala’s abilities, citing his experience and proven understanding of the domestic football landscape.
As Sunshine Stars aim to turn their fortunes around, all eyes will be on Bala as he takes charge and begins his tenure with the Akure Gunners.
