Mamelodi Sundowns have moved 10 trophies clear of Kaizer Chiefs and 11 ahead of Orlando Pirates after beating Pirates 2-0 in the MTN8 final.
The victory at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday delivered Sundowns’ 31st trophy during the PSL era, which began in August 1996. It was also the first domestic trophy of the 2026/27 season.
Kaizer Chiefs are second in the overall trophy standings with 21, while Orlando Pirates are third on 20. Sundowns’ latest success has therefore extended their advantage over the two Soweto clubs into double figures.
Their 31 trophies include 15 PSL-era league titles, two CAF Champions League crowns, the CAF Super Cup, the African Football League, five Nedbank Cup victories, three Carling KnockOut successes, three MTN8 titles and the African-Asian-Pacific Cup.
The result also ended Sundowns’ wait for another MTN8 triumph, with Mokoena and Rayners scoring in the final.
More silverware in sight
Miguel Cardoso’s side have four further opportunities to win a trophy before the end of the year.
Their next assignment is the CAF Super Cup against USM Alger on November 8. Sundowns will also compete in the Carling KnockOut, with the final scheduled for December 12.
They will then take part in the Challenger Cup. Should they progress from that competition, they will face Paris Saint-Germain in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup final, which will also be held in December.
The remaining schedule means Sundowns could add considerably to their already dominant record before the calendar year ends. The source states that two trophies are already secured, with seven more still available to Cardoso’s team this season.
After the year-end competitions, Sundowns will continue their campaign in the Betway Premiership, CAF Champions League and Nedbank Cup.
In total, nine trophies are on offer to the club during the season, with two already in the bag and seven still to play for.
