Sundowns offer R80 tickets for Intercontinental Cup clash with Al Ahli

Mamelodi Sundowns will offer fans tickets for their FIFA Intercontinental Cup debut at R80 (approximately USD5), making the fixture one of the cheapest in the competition’s short history.

The CAF Champions League holders will face Saudi Arabia giants Al Ahli, winners of the 2025/26 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League, at Loftus Versfeld on September 19.

The match, listed as Match 2 (M2), will be played as the African-Asian-Pacific Cup. A trophy and medals will be presented after the fixture.

The R80 ticket price represents a significant bargain for a match involving the champions of two continents.

For the opening game of the 2024 edition, between Al Ain and Auckland City in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, supporters paid the equivalent of approximately R750 for the cheapest available ticket.

The derby of the Americas cost about R650, while Al Ahly reduced the lowest ticket price to R50 for their African-Asian-Pacific Cup meeting with Al Ain.

Tickets for the Challenger Cup match between Al Ahly and Pachuca started at R180.

Real Madrid’s presence in the final saw the cheapest ticket rise to R880.

The previous year’s tournament, staged in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, had ticket prices starting at R90 at every stage in an effort to attract larger crowds.

Sundowns’ match against Al Ahli will therefore provide supporters with the lowest-priced opportunity to attend a fixture in the competition involving continental champions, based on the ticket figures from its brief history.
