Sunderland have set their sights on Strasbourg captain Habib Diarra as they prepare for a long-awaited return to the Premier League.
The Black Cats are locked in talks with the French side over a deal for the talented 21-year-old Senegalese midfielder, who played a key role for Strasbourg in Ligue 1 last season.
Diarra, who has four caps for Senegal, made 30 league appearances during the campaign, starting 27 matches and scoring five goals. His performances have caught the attention of Sunderland’s new boss Régis Le Bris, who sees Diarra as a vital piece of his midfield setup heading into top-flight football.
Despite carrying a minor ankle injury late in the season, Diarra impressed with his composure and leadership, earning praise as one of Ligue 1’s rising stars. He remains under contract with Strasbourg until 2028, but Sunderland are confident that their exciting project could be enough to tempt the youngster to make the switch.
Club officials have been in contact with Diarra’s camp for several days, pushing hard to bring the Senegalese star to the Stadium of Light.
