Newly promoted English Premier League side Sunderland AFC are interested in signing Cameroonian midfielder Frank Zambo Anguissa.

The club is aiming to secure the services of the midfielder from SSC Napoli to strengthen their squad for the 2025/26 football season.

Anguissa, 28, remains a key figure at Napoli and has been offered a contract extension running until 2028. The Italian side is optimistic that the midfielder will commit his future to the club in the coming weeks.

However, Sunderland’s interest highlights their ambition to attract experienced, high-calibre players.

Their pursuit of Anguissa comes amid ongoing talks to bring Swiss international Granit Xhaka back to England from Bayer Leverkusen.

While negotiations for Xhaka are still in progress, the addition of Anguissa to their wishlist demonstrates Sunderland’s aggressive approach in the transfer market.

Whether or not either deal materialises, the Black Cats are making it clear they intend to be competitive from day one in the Premier League.

Sunderland are hoping to build a formidable squad in order to compete well in the upcoming campaign.
