Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Sudanese referee Mahmoud Ismail to officiate the first leg of the CAF Champions League final between Pyramids FC and Mamelodi Sundowns.
Pyramids and Sundowns are set to battle it out for the Champions League title this campaign in a two-legged affair.
The Egyptian outfit will play host Sundowns on Saturday, May 24 at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria.
However, the continental football governing body has settled on referee Mahmoud Ismail as the centre referee for the first leg clash.
He will be assisted by his compatriot Mohamed Abdullah and Ahmed Abdel Razek from Djibouti, with Pacifique Ndayeha and Nyama from Burundi serving as the fourth official.
The refereeing team includes Ghanaian Daniel Laryea, who will serve as the video assistant referee (VAR), alongside Rwandan Salima Mukansanga.
Mahmoud Ismail, 37, is one of the most prominent football referees in Africa at the moment.
Ismail officiated the CAF Champions League final between Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca and South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns.
The Sudanese referee has also officiated three CAF Champions League matches this season, including a match between Pyramids FC and Mali’s Djoliba in the group stage.
