Sudanese international Ammar Taifour joins CS Sfaxien on two-year deal
Club Sportif Sfaxien have secured the signing of Sudanese international Ammar Taifour on a two-year contract, finalising the deal on Thursday after completing all administrative formalities.
The 28-year-old defensive midfielder is tied to the Tunisian club until 2027.
According to sources close to the negotiations, the transfer is valued at €170,000, with €80,000 to be paid in the first season and €90,000 in the second.
The move reflects CS Sfaxien’s continued commitment to acquiring seasoned African talent capable of making an immediate impact in their domestic and continental campaigns.
Taifour, who began his football development in Italy, featured for Bastia (Italy) before returning to Africa, where he represented Al-Merrikh SC in Sudan and later Al-Ahly Tripoli in Libya.
Across these stints, he built a reputation as a tireless presence in midfield, noted for his stamina, combative edge and astute positional play.
His versatility and consistency have been further honed through his experience with the Sudanese national team, for whom he has earned 11 caps.
At Sfaxien, the midfielder is expected to bring both defensive solidity and leadership to the centre of the pitch.
His arrival aligns with the club’s strategy of blending experienced internationals with emerging talent, a balance aimed at boosting performance while preserving long-term squad depth.
A club insider described the acquisition as part of a broader plan to reinforce key positions without jeopardising financial stability.
This recruitment confirms the club’s desire to strengthen with discernment, while maintaining rigorous financial management, the source said.
CS Sfaxien, a regular contender in Tunisian football and on the continental stage, have been strategic in their summer dealings, targeting players with proven track records in competitive environments.
Taifour’s familiarity with African club football is viewed as a significant asset, particularly in high-intensity fixtures against seasoned opposition.
For Taifour, the move presents an opportunity to showcase his abilities in one of North Africa’s most competitive leagues and to contribute to Sfaxien’s ambitions at both domestic and CAF competition levels.
The Sudanese midfielder will link up with his new teammates immediately as pre-season preparations intensify ahead of the forthcoming campaign.
The signing not only adds depth to the midfield but also underscores the club’s belief in recruiting players capable of combining tactical discipline with the physical demands of modern football — qualities Taifour has consistently displayed throughout his career.
