Sudan: "Bashair Al-Salam" football league kicks off in Al-Lait

The Executive Director of Al-Lait Locality in North Darfur State, Dr. Ismail Abdullah Ibrahim Al-Safi, witnessed the launch of the “Bashair Al-Salam” sports league yesterday afternoon at Al-Lait Stadium.

The league, organized by the Football Sub-Union under the sponsorship of the locality, commenced with a celebration attended by various officials.

Al-Safi expressed his appreciation for the first-generation martyrs who dedicated themselves to gaining Sudan’s independence.

He urged the community to draw lessons from the meaning of independence, emphasizing the need to overcome division and work together for peace and stability.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Al-Safi underscored the importance of embracing the league as a platform to promote brotherhood, love, and collaboration among local communities and immigrants seeking safe havens due to the ongoing war in the country.

The opening event was attended by executive leaders from the Football Sub-Union, officials from various sectors, club administrations, immigrants, and sports enthusiasts.

This underscored the local interest in sports in all its forms, as well as the efforts made to create an environment conducive to athletes practicing their activities.

Al-Safi highlighted the league’s significance in embodying the values of brotherhood and love, fostering cooperation and solidarity among local communities and immigrants who sought refuge due to the country’s ongoing conflict.

He emphasized that the timing of the league was opportune.

Representatives from the Football Sub-Union, Abdullah Jad Al-Sayed, and immigrant representative Mu’taz Badowi explained that the first group includes immigrants, East Darfur, Al-Sendi, and Greater Kordofan.

Meanwhile, the second group comprises North Darfur, Khartoum, South Sudan, and a refugee team from South Sudan.

Players and spectators were called upon to demonstrate high sportsmanship, patience, diligence, and dignified support throughout the league.

The opening match between the immigrants and East Darfur ended in a one-goal draw.
