RC Strasbourg have emerged as frontrunners in the pursuit of Hamza Igamane, following a breakout season from the Moroccan striker with Scottish giants Rangers.
The 22-year-old has drawn significant interest from Ligue 1 clubs after a strong campaign in the Scottish Premiership, where he registered 16 goals and three assists in 46 appearances across all competitions.
Despite only joining Rangers from FAR Rabat last summer in a €2.36 million deal, Igamane’s performances have already attracted the attention of top-tier French clubs.
Olympique de Marseille and Stade Rennais have both been monitoring Igamane closely. However, according to information confirmed by journalist Mohamed Toubache-Ter, who is known for his reliable coverage of French football, it is RC Strasbourg who appear to have moved ahead in the race for the Moroccan international’s signature.
Strasbourg’s interest aligns with strategic planning under their American owners BlueCo, the consortium that also controls Premier League side Chelsea.
With forward Emanuel Emegha expected to leave Alsace in the near future—potentially headed to Stamford Bridge—the club is keen to secure a promising replacement who can step in quickly. Igamane, who offers youth, versatility, and a proven scoring touch, fits the bill.
Still relatively new to European football, Igamane has adapted swiftly to the demands of the Scottish game. His ability to operate across the front line has made him a valuable asset for Rangers, and his development over the past year has not gone unnoticed by scouts across Europe.
Now a Moroccan international with one senior cap, Igamane may be poised to make his next move as early as this summer.
For Strasbourg, the move would be more than a reactive signing. It would mark a continued ambition under Liam Rosenior’s leadership to build a squad capable of pushing for European qualification.
Currently sitting sixth in Ligue 1, the club has been playing an attractive brand of football and is in contention for a Europa Conference League spot, holding a three-point lead over Lyon in the table.
A potential switch to Marseille would present a different kind of challenge for Igamane. The competition for places, particularly from players such as Amine Gouiri, could limit his minutes in a side regularly rotating its attacking options.
Rennes, meanwhile, appear likely to finish mid-table, offering less immediate appeal for a player eager to take the next step in his development.
From a sporting perspective, Strasbourg may represent the most balanced opportunity—combining competitive football, a clear pathway to regular first-team action, and a club infrastructure increasingly aligned with top-level European ambitions.
Igamane remains under contract at Rangers until 2029, which means any potential suitor will need to engage in serious negotiations.
However, his reported valuation of around €4 million makes him an accessible target for a Ligue 1 side with long-term planning in mind.
For now, Strasbourg appear to hold the advantage. While the final decision rests with Igamane himself, all signs point to the Alsace-based club having taken a decisive early step in securing one of Morocco’s most promising young talents.
