Racing Club de Strasbourg are on the verge of finalising the signing of French-Cameroonian midfielder Valentin Atangana Edoa from Stade de Reims in a deal worth around €15m.
The 20-year-old underwent his medical on Sunday and is expected to sign a five-year contract with the Alsace club, according to reports from transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.
The agreement will make Atangana one of Strasbourg’s most significant arrivals of the summer window, which has already seen the club embark on a major recruitment drive.
If completed, Atangana will become Strasbourg’s 16th signing of the summer. The club has already invested close to €100m since the start of the transfer period, reflecting their determination to reshape the squad and strengthen across all areas of the pitch.
The young midfielder leaves Stade de Reims having made 63 first-team appearances. Despite his contract with the club running until June 2027, Strasbourg have moved decisively to secure his services, paying above his estimated market value of €10m to complete the transfer.
Born in Yaoundé, Atangana developed at Reims and steadily established himself as a reliable figure in midfield. Known for his energy, defensive discipline, and ability to link play, he has been regarded as one of the more promising young talents in Ligue 1. Strasbourg’s willingness to pay a fee of €15m, excluding bonuses, highlights the belief in his potential to make an immediate and long-term impact.
For Strasbourg, the signing underlines the scale of their ambitions. Backed by substantial investment, the club has undergone a major overhaul this summer, aiming to position themselves more competitively in Ligue 1.
The volume of signings – Atangana being the 16th – points to a strategic rebuild that seeks to combine youth and experience in order to deliver consistency in performances and results.
Atangana’s arrival also reflects Strasbourg’s focus on securing players with both present ability and future value. At just 20, the French-Cameroonian has already gained valuable Ligue 1 experience and is seen as a player who can develop further under the right environment.
His adaptability in midfield makes him a versatile option for manager Patrick Vieira, offering balance in both defensive and transitional phases of play.
For Reims, the departure represents the loss of a homegrown talent who had become part of the first-team structure. However, the financial return of €15m plus potential bonuses provides the club with resources to reinvest, while also recognising Atangana’s career progression at a club with growing ambitions.
The midfielder is now set to begin a new chapter in Alsace, where expectations will be high. Strasbourg supporters, buoyed by the scale of investment this summer, will be looking for Atangana and his fellow signings to help transform the team’s fortunes in the upcoming campaign.
With the transfer window closing in a matter of days, Strasbourg’s confirmation of the deal will mark another statement of intent in what has already been one of the busiest summers in the club’s history. For Atangana, it represents both a new challenge and an opportunity to further establish himself as one of Ligue 1’s brightest young midfielders.
