Stephen Appiah’s appointment aims to mend Black Stars’ player relations – Augustine Ahinful

Former Ghana international Augustine Ahinful has offered insights into the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) decision to appoint Stephen Appiah as deputy chairman of the Black Stars management committee.

Appiah, a former captain who led Ghana to its maiden World Cup appearance in 2006, will work alongside Randy Abbey to manage the national team.

The move follows reports of challenges in managing player relationships within the Black Stars setup. Ahinful believes the appointment aims to address these underlying issues.

“The FA should explain to us further, going forward, what they mean by player relations,” Ahinful told Accra-based Sporty FM.

“Probably they’ve noticed certain things within the team which are not right. So they need somebody like Stephen [Appiah] to come on board to have that interaction with them.”

The Black Stars are gearing up for crucial World Cup qualifiers in March against Chad and Madagascar, following their historic failure to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time in 21 years.

Ahinful underscored the importance of rebuilding trust between players and management, suggesting that Appiah’s leadership and experience could be instrumental in fostering a cohesive team environment.
