Stellenbosch coach Steve Parker expressed satisfaction with his team’s resilience after securing a goalless draw against Zamalek in the CAF Confederation Cup quarter-final first leg on Wednesday evening.
The match, hosted by the South African side, saw both teams struggle to break the deadlock against a spirited Egyptian outfit.
With the second leg looming next Wednesday at Cairo Stadium, the tie remains wide open as the winner earns a coveted semi-final spot.
Speaking post-match on beIN SPORTS, Parker reflected on the performance.
“We played well and with great confidence. We knew how to handle the ball. We were the better team in the first half. I’m very happy that my team didn’t concede any goals. There were mistakes in the final minutes, but we succeeded in facing Zamalek,” he emphasized the significance of their defensive solidity, a factor that could prove decisive in Egypt.
“The second leg in Cairo will be extremely important. The most important thing is to keep a clean sheet in Egypt in order to qualify,” he added.
