Standard Liège pursues French-Cameroonian striker Timothé Nkada after breakout Ligue 2 season

Timothé Nkada’s standout campaign with Rodez AF has placed the French-Cameroonian striker firmly on the radar of top European clubs, with Belgian side Standard Liège making a determined push for his signature.

The 25-year-old forward enjoyed a prolific season in Ligue 2, scoring 17 goals and providing five assists in 31 appearances. His contributions played a crucial role in Rodez’s competitiveness throughout the campaign and have not gone unnoticed by scouts across the continent.

According to Foot Mercato, Standard Liège have already submitted two formal offers to Rodez in a bid to secure Nkada’s services ahead of the new season.

While no deal has yet been reached, the French club is understood to be holding out for a transfer fee in the region of €3 to €5 million—reflecting Nkada’s rising stock and central role in the team.

Nkada’s mix of physical strength, intelligent positioning, and clinical finishing has made him one of the most sought-after players in France’s second tier.

His consistency in front of goal, paired with his ability to link play and operate effectively in the final third, has drawn interest from beyond Belgium as well.

Reports suggest that several Ligue 1 clubs, along with one Bundesliga side and a Turkish Super Lig outfit, have made initial enquiries regarding his availability.

Among the domestic suitors, AS Saint-Étienne is believed to be monitoring the situation closely. The historic French club, recently promoted back to Ligue 1, is evaluating attacking options to reinforce its squad, and Nkada fits the profile of a forward capable of making the step up to top-flight football.

Nkada, who began his career at Stade Rennais, has steadily built his reputation through spells in the French football system. While his early years did not deliver immediate breakthroughs, his development has accelerated in recent seasons, culminating in this year’s breakout performance with Rodez.

For Standard Liège, the move is seen as a strategic investment in a proven goal-scorer who could bolster their ambitions both domestically and in potential European competitions.

The Belgian club is looking to rebuild and reassert itself among the country’s elite, and acquiring a forward of Nkada’s calibre would represent a significant step in that direction.

The coming weeks are likely to be decisive as Rodez weigh up their options. The club may look to maximise their return on one of their most valuable assets, but there is also the recognition that Nkada is ready for a higher level of competition.

If the transfer materialises, it will mark the next chapter in the Franco-Cameroonian forward’s career—one that could see him testing himself outside France for the first time.

Whether in Belgium or elsewhere, Timothé Nkada appears poised for a move that could elevate him further in European football.
