Standard de Liège finds itself at a pivotal juncture as the deadline looms for the potential permanent acquisition of Souleyman Doumbia, whose contract with the club is set to expire in June.

Doumbia, who joined Standard de Liège as a free agent during the 2024 winter transfer window, inked a short-term deal lasting six months.

However, embedded within the contract is a purchase option clause that requires the club’s decision by the end of March.

Le Soir reported on the mounting pressure Standard de Liège faces as the critical deadline approaches.

Should the Jupiler Pro League outfit choose to exercise the option to acquire Souleyman Doumbia permanently, the Ivorian international could extend his stay until 2026.

Currently valued at €2 million on the transfer market, Doumbia commanded an annual salary of €680,000, or approximately 442,000,000 FCFA, during his tenure with Angevins.

Since joining Standard de Liège, Doumbia has featured in seven matches this season, showcasing his talent and adaptability on the pitch.

The decision regarding Doumbia’s future represents a significant financial and strategic move for Standard de Liège.

With the midfielder’s impressive performances and potential for further growth, the club’s management faces the challenging task of weighing the benefits of securing his services against other potential transfer targets or financial considerations.

For Doumbia, the coming weeks hold the promise of clarity regarding his professional trajectory.

Whether he remains with Standard de Liège or explores new opportunities elsewhere, the Ivorian midfielder’s talent and dedication are certain to attract attention from clubs across Europe.

As the deadline draws near, Standard de Liège finds itself at a crossroads, with the decision regarding Souleyman Doumbia’s future poised to shape the club’s trajectory in the seasons to come.
