Yassir Zabiri has completed a move to Stade Rennais after the Ligue 1 club confirmed the signing of the Moroccan striker on a contract running until 2029.

The 19-year-old forward joins the Breton side from Portuguese club FC Famalicão, marking the latest step in a rapid rise that has already seen him crowned a U20 world champion with Morocco.

Stade Rennais announced the deal on their official platforms, underlining their belief in a player widely regarded as one of the brightest prospects in Moroccan football.

“Stade Rennais and the Portuguese club FC Famalicão have agreed on the transfer of striker Yassir Zabiri. A great hope of Moroccan football, he has signed until 2029,” the club said in a statement.

Zabiri arrives in Brittany after spending less than two years in Portugal, a period that followed his first experiences of senior football in Morocco.

Born in Marrakech, he began playing at a very young age and spent two seasons with KAC Marrakech before being identified by the Mohammed VI Football Academy at the age of 10.

He went on to develop there for nine years, progressing through a structured system designed to prepare players for the professional game.

His pathway to senior football continued at Union Touarga Sport, where he made his professional debut in January 2024.

After 11 appearances, in which he scored three goals and provided one assist, Zabiri opted to further his development abroad, joining FC Famalicão in the summer of 2024. Following an initial period of adaptation, he earned playing time with the Liga Portugal side, who currently sit eighth in the table.

It was on the international stage, however, that Zabiri truly captured wider attention. At the U20 World Cup in Chile, he emerged as one of the tournament’s standout performers, finishing as top scorer with five goals.

His impact included a decisive brace in the final against Argentina, helping Morocco secure the title and confirming his status as a technically gifted and decisive attacker.

At Stade Rennais, Zabiri will wear the number 77 shirt. The club noted that he “will be able to count on the presence of his childhood friend Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal to get to know his new teammates better,” as he settles into his new surroundings.

Rennes are currently sixth in Ligue 1 with 31 points and face Olympique de Marseille at the Stade Vélodrome on Tuesday evening in the Coupe de France, with a place in the quarter-finals at stake.

Zabiri’s arrival reflects the club’s continued focus on youth and long-term planning as they balance domestic and cup ambitions.
