French Ligue 1 outfit Stade Rennais is exploring a move for Senegal international Idrissa Gana Gueye in the ongoing transfer window.
Rennais struggled in the recently concluded campaign. However, the club is seeking to strengthen their squad for the new campaign, with Gueye emerging as a priority target this summer.
Gueye’s current contract with Everton is expected to elapse at the end of June, with several clubs expressing keen interest in the midfielder.
The Senegal international is well-versed with the French top flight, having made his professional debut with Lille in 2010 before leaving in 2015. He also had spell with Paris Saint-Germain from 2019 until 2022. Gueye has the distinction of having won Ligue 1 with both of his former sides.
Rennes are despite to sign an experienced midfielder to solidify the team heading into the new campaign. However, the French outfit is not the only club interested in Gueye, with fellow French side Paris FC expressing interest.
His current side, Everton, have not given up hope that he will continue his stay in England. The Premier League outfit have reportedly offered a one-year extension with an option to extend by a further year to the midfielder, but he has yet to accept the proposal.
