Christopher Wooh has seen a shift in his role at Stade Rennais, finding himself relegated to the bench. The Cameroonian central defender, who featured prominently for Cameroon in the tournament, has recently spent five matches as a spectator, watching his teammates take the field.
Christopher Wooh played in all four matches for the Cameroon national team during AFCON 2023, culminating in their elimination in the round of 16. Since his return to Stade Rennais on January 30, the defender appears to have lost his status as a key player within the French club, having spent the last five matches on the bench.
Notably, Wooh was among the substitutes against Montpellier (2-1), Sochaux in the Coupe de France (1-6), Le Havre (0-1), AC Milan (a 3-0 loss), and Clermont (3-1).
The rise of Warmed Omari has presented a challenge for Christopher Wooh. Following Wooh’s absence for AFCON 2023, Omari seamlessly secured a starting position in the Stade Rennais defense.
Under the trust of coach Julien Stéphan, Omari has made eight starts, solidifying his place in the lineup. Wooh, now facing increased competition for a starting spot, will need to redouble his efforts to reclaim his position in the starting eleven at Stade Rennais.
