Tunisian club Stade Gabésien seek postponement after eligibility case
Stade Gabésien have confirmed they will appeal against the decision of Tunisia’s National Professional Football League (LNFP) regarding the eligibility case involving AS Kasserine player Wissem Jerbi.
The dispute follows the league’s decision to reject the complaint submitted by Stade Gabésien and uphold the 1-1 result recorded on the pitch.
The ruling has prompted strong reactions from the Gabesian club, which insists that the matter has not been fully resolved.
At the centre of the controversy is the participation of Wissem Jerbi during the 2025-2026 season. Stade Gabésien argue that the player represented three different clubs during the campaign — JS Kairouanaise, Kalaa Sport and AS Kasserine — a situation they believe raises questions regarding his eligibility.
Despite those claims, documents circulating on social media reportedly show that the player’s official licence does not mention his spell with Kalaa Sport.
That detail could strengthen the defence presented by AS Kasserine, who maintain they are not responsible for the administrative situation surrounding the player.
The case has gained further attention due to Jerbi’s involvement in the Ligue 2 fixture between AS Kasserine and Kalaa Sport on November 2 during Matchday 7 of Group B. AS Kasserine won the match 3-1, with Jerbi scoring his side’s only goal in the encounter.
Following the LNFP’s rejection of their complaint, Stade Gabésien announced that they would now take the matter to the appeals committee in an attempt to overturn the decision.
The club has also requested the postponement of the final round of Ligue 2 Group B fixtures until the appeal process has been completed.
Stade Gabésien believe proceeding with the decisive matches before a final ruling could affect the integrity of the competition.
The dispute now places additional pressure on the authorities overseeing Ligue 2 as the season approaches its conclusion.
Attention will focus on whether the appeals committee decides to review the case further and if any changes to the schedule will be considered.
With the final matchday approaching, uncertainty surrounding the Jerbi case continues to cast a shadow over the competition’s closing stages.
