Sporting CP have confirmed the transfers of Geovany Quenda and Dário Essugo (both of Angolan heritage) to Chelsea in a deal worth approximately €74.4 million (£62 million).
According to the statement released by Sporting, the bulk of the fee—€52.1 million (£43.5 million)—is for 17-year-old winger Quenda.
This includes an additional €1.2 million (£1.2 million) in potential performance-related bonuses. Chelsea will also cover half of the required solidarity payments owed to the clubs involved in Quenda’s development, including Benfica.
The remaining €22.3 million (£18.5 million) is for midfielder Essugo. Unlike Quenda’s deal, Essugo’s transfer does not include any additional performance-based bonuses. However, the same solidarity payment arrangement applies.
As part of the agreement, Quenda will remain at Sporting for the 2025-26 season before officially joining Chelsea.
This means the Portuguese U21 international will continue his development in Lisbon before making the move to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2026.
In contrast, Essugo will complete his move to Chelsea this summer after finishing the current season on loan at Las Palmas.
Chelsea have yet to officially announce the signings, but both players are expected to be key additions to the club’s long-term plans.
Quenda is regarded as one of the most promising young wingers in Portugal, known for his dribbling ability and attacking flair.
Essugo, a defensive midfielder, has already gained experience at senior level despite being only 19 years old.
Chelsea have been actively targeting young talent as part of their recruitment strategy, and the signings of Quenda and Essugo reflect their commitment to strengthening their squad for the future.
With these latest deals, the Blues continue their investment in youth as they prepare for the challenges ahead in both domestic and European competitions.
